WHO IS THIS B***H?
Introducing Tayva, an emerging alternative R&B singer who prioritizes the art of stage presence, vocal technique, and lyricism. Get ready to experience her unique sound and powerful performances.
Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Tayva's passion and love for music has been lifelong. She's been singing and performing since she was eleven years old. Growing up, Tayva was surrounded by hip-hop, rap, and R&B, courtesy of her dad, Nathan, who is a music head himself, which only nurtured the deep love for music that would later become her greatest love. Weekends in Tayva’s childhood were spent going to car shows, looking for new speakers for her dad’s cars, and the music video channel blasting while hanging out with family. Tayva has credited her father for her music aspirations, saying that he is “the reason for her music taste and affinity for 808s”. “My dad has always supported my creativity, he has never doubted my capabilities and never limited me”, she says.
Some of her biggest influences in her music are Tupac, Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Janet Jackson, Sade, Jhené Aiko, Victoria Monet, Kanye West, Lauryn Hill, J. Cole, Rihanna, and SZA. “I write like a rapper”, she says, “A big part of my creative block and imposter syndrome was because I didn’t write like a typical R&B singer, I write bars, and I didn’t know how to position myself in music or create songs I enjoyed because I can’t rap for sh*t and all my songs sounded better to me for a rapper. It wasn’t until I stopped putting imaginary limitations on myself where I could actually write songs for me and not feel like I couldn’t execute my own lyrics”.
So, step into the mind of Tayva and immerse yourself in her soulful melodies, unique lyrics, and captivating stage presence. Welcome to a musical journey like no other.
